The photo was taken during studio session in rented studio, down town in Lund. It was meant to be general family pictures, but the little guy was in a pretty playful mood. Everything was set when he started to play with his mothers’ hair. All I did was to press the shutter button.Time
Actually, it was a sunny mid-day, but we had to turn down all the blackout curtains to shut out all the harsh sunlight.Lighting
I used two standard studio flashes with soft boxes. As you can see on the shadows, one from the side and one pretty straight in front.Equipment
Canon EOS 5D mark II, Canon EF 24-105mm f/4 L IS USM (@ 65mm) and a PocketWizard. The shot was handheld (ISO 100, 1/100, f/7.1). I really dislike tripods; I need to move around smoothly in the studio to find the best angle.Inspiration
This photo was more of a lucky shot among many standard family photos, I took the opportunity when I saw it!Editing
I didn’t do much post-processing. I adjusted the tone curve and added some vignetting. In my camera bag
Today I shoot with a Canon EOS R8. When I go out, I like to have as small, light and compact equipment as possible. Normally I use my favourite lens, the fantastic Canon RF 35mm F1.8 MACRO IS STM. I have a nice collection of EF-lenses, but I only use them for dedicated purposes.Feedback
Make the model (-s) to feel comfortable, make sure that your camera settings and light are good. Do test exposures if you are unsure. When you are good to go, take quite a lot of pictures in each pose. In post it always amazes me how many small details that could turn out bad. Weird smiles, closed eyes, hands in the wrong position, etc. And the most important thing; have fun!
