Location
I captured this image along at a small garage along a country road. This is a grill of an old wrecker. I have more images of the entire truck in my viewbug image gallery.Time
It was midmorning when I shot this image. I was up early and organized my equipment to hit the road for a day of photographing.Lighting
It was partly sunny that day with the clouds diffusing the sun at times.Equipment
This was a hand held shot. I used my Sony A7R with a vintage Kinoptik 40mm c mount lens.Inspiration
As I was photographing the entire truck I was drawn in to the grill. I loved the lines of the grill and the textures from the years of weather and rust.Editing
I use several editing tools. I always import my RAW file to Lighroom and make a few adjustments. After that I am in Topaz Studio where I spend the most time post-processing. I end up with some finishing touches in Photoshop. In my camera bag
I shoot with a Nikon D700 or a Sony A7R mirrorless. I have a large selection of Nikon ED, AF and AF-S lenses as well as adapters to use older Canon FD mount manual focus lenses. When using my Sony I shoot with vintage c mount lenses. My favorite c mount brands are Kinoptik, Angeniuex, Cooke, Wollensak and Birns & Sawyer Hollywood lenses. These lenses were designed for 16mm cine cameras. I use these lenses for the amazing creamy bokeh they create.Feedback
Explore the entire subject, up close, walk around and try different angles. I have to constantly slow myself down because I tend to rush myself as I get excited about the shoot. Slow down and keep focused is what I tell myself.
