Behind The Lens

Location

The photo was taken on the West Coast of the Western Cape in South Africa.

Time

The picture was taken early morning at sunrise.

Lighting

The sun rising in the distance created the silhouette effect together with the early morning cold creating the misty breath.

Equipment

Nikon D4 hand held with500mm lens. ISO 800 Speed 1/1000 F 5

Inspiration

Right place at the right time. I was going to photograph waders from a bird hide as the tide was coming in, when this photo opportunity presented itself .

Editing

No much processing ,a bit of sharpening and saturation to bring out the orange morning colour.

In my camera bag

Nikon D5 with 200-500mm F5.6 lens . Nikon DF with 24-70mm lens. Nikon D4 with 600mm prime lens

Feedback

Try and consider the composition and the end picture you are trying to take. I had to move around taking several pictures without disturbing the Kudu to get the sun behind the animal just where I wanted it. Then I needed to capture the breath as the animal was grazing.
