A photo well worth the awards. Great shot - love the lighting. Speaks volumes to me.

At home in my front room, I got a small table for the book, glass etc., and hung a piece of black velvet behind the table to give a black background and hide distracting elements.Time
early evening I think, around 5 or 6pmLighting
Lighting was pretty simple, I used an EX150 flash head with 8 inch reflector and grid, set low down to the tableEquipment
Canon 5D MK 3 with 100mm at 1/160, f4 on a tripod. Flash was an Interfit EX150, triggered using pocket wizardInspiration
I had taken a similar shot a couple of years back, I 'revamped' the original shot, for the books and magazines competition, substituting a glass of scotch and pair of glasses, (the original shot had a coffee mug and pince nez reading glasses).Editing
Very little post processing, contrast and sharpening using PS6In my camera bag
Bodies; Canon 5D MK3, Canon 5D and Canon 7D Lenses; 300mm f4, 100mm f2.8 macro, 50mm f2.8, 70-200mm f2.8Feedback
This is a fairly easy shot to copy using a simple angle poise table lamp, instead of a flash head, and black card to put the light where you want it. Put the table lamp above the table with the book and use the black card to fashion a set of barndoors.
