Behind The Lens

Location

This was taken in Our Model Sarah's Home in Bedford and old Georgian style property full of character and adorned with amazing Vintage furniture

Time

The Shot Was taken at midday in May in the UK where the sun is still low in the sky but perfect to shine through this amazing old Georgian window overlooking the garden

Lighting

Natural sunlight but not direct coming in from the right of the image Artemis Fauna our Models stage name creates the mood perfectly, No other lighting is used Taken in black and white and retained as this gives or makes it easier to see the light on the image easier in the LCD screen

Equipment

The Camera used is the recently purchased CANON 5D mkIV and the outstanding 85mm L lens hand held shot

Inspiration

I've been inspired by seeing other similar images and was on my bucket list to emulate and put my own stamp on the image - As soon as I saw the window and the sunlight shining through I could see the shot so with the help of our Girl it was fairly easy to set up However with every image you need a bit of luck, luck by having the girl the window and the weather with us all at the same time The sun slightly higher or shaded would of made the shoot impossible above all that you must have vision and be able to see a situation a prop a window and grab the opportunity

Editing

Yes but very Minor as I say I shot the image in B/W with the idea of the image in my mind, In lightroom it will always turn your image back to colour so technically I just turned it back to B/W The sun rays also highlighted a rain stained window so these were removed the shot or cropping is also as shot and that's that

In my camera bag

I will often carry two camera's with totally opposite ends of the lens spectrum attached just to be ready for opportunity that may arise, on an interior shoot however the 85mm portrait lens and a 50mm prime for full body shots are my choice, Out in the field the 24-105 and the 100-400mm zoom are constantly attached Most of the time I have a good idea of what I want to capture and will carry the appropriate lenses only as lets be honest both the 85mm and the 100-400 lenses are heavy beasts This shoot was all about natural light so again even though a speedlight is in the bag it would be a last resort to use it

Feedback

For me have the image your trying to capture in mind, research your shot look at similar shots and get inspiration, research venue's and bring it all together Take your time you may have to wait for the sun to be in the right position so for a shoot like this take picture elsewhere and come back to this position a good model who can also understand the vision you are trying to achieve also helps give them the idea the mood you are trying to capture. shadows give depth and sometimes B/W is better than colour not always experiment Shooting in B/W also makes it easier to see where the light is falling on practice shots and learn simple technique's in lightroom
