This image was taken in a woods near Gloucester in the UK and was part of a planned shoot with several idea's to work withTime
We had a window of 6hrs of shooting from midday to early evening as we were after atmosphere in the way the light would shine through the trees and reflect over lakes etc this particular the sun is going down but not to the point of sunset. Today we are not after the golden hour but wanted natural light no flashLighting
as explained above it was imperative to me we got natural light, the shadows had to be prominent to give the image a time of day, The girls are lost in a forest alone and vulnerable with fading light it starts to give it a a feel that desperation is around the cornerEquipment
This was taken on a 70D as I was trialling it at the time with a 24-105 zoom hand held no tripod my usual camera of choice for a long days shooting would be the 6D as my other camera a 5D can be somewhat heavy after a full day of shooting. What I did enjoy about the 70D was the touch screen which I'm glad to see is on the new 5D with that and Wi-Fi, Gps on the new camera I think the 6D will be moving onInspiration
Had the idea for a long time now wanting to get natural atmospheric images back to nature and natural light - the plan was to get a story or a set of thought provoking images that would tell a story on there own. The two girls were brilliant nothing was a bother and they both made my job easy without too much prompting they brought into the idea straight awayEditing
Apart from bringing up the vibrancy of the colours no processing was done I didn't even crop this shot something people are always blaming me of - That is spending time getting the crop I want from the original shotIn my camera bag
My Camera of choice for the last three years has been the Canon 6D over 80,000 shutter releases and it is still going strong the quality of the image is for me as good as the 5D with its inbuilt gps and Wi-Fi it really is under-rated next and used for wedding shoots and portraits have been the 5D but as with this shot in sampling the 70D I got some great images Lens wise the 24-105 zoom is always on the camera followed by one of my favourites the 100-400 f4 zoom I try not to use flash but its in the kit just in case I have recently attempted to get some decent out of studio shots with the heavyweight 1.2 85mm prime lens but that can be a challenge if you are in a hurry and extremely heavyFeedback
my advice as always is to experiment take the camera off of auto and experiment with manual shooting shutter speeds ISO and aperture really can make an average image OUTSTANDING. I'm no expert and would never say I was but I'm not afraid to look at other peoples work put my own take on it and get out in the wilds of the UK and see what we can create. If I can help others and have fun myself then my work is done
