Location
There's a small creek running through our neighborhood in Myllypuro, Helsinki, Finland. It flows so fast it doesn't freeze over at least until -25 Celsius. Thus, a lot of mallards stay there for the winter. People also feed them during winter.Time
The photo was taken around noon. In January the sun doesn't rise very high at all, so I got a nice golden reflection on the water.Lighting
The light in the cold winter days is magnificent. The air is clear and dry, sun is shining very low.Equipment
Olympus E-PL7 with cheap 40-150mm zoom lens.Inspiration
This is one of my favourite spots in cold winter days. The mallards are always there. There's mist over the water. Sometimes all the twigs and hay have a nice layer of frost on them.Editing
Maybe slight cropping and doing the normal adjustments of light and shadow. In my camera bag
Nowdays I carry Olympus E-PL7, 14-150mm zoom, 75-300mm zoom, 7,5mm fisheye, 25mm portrait lens. Circular polar filter, a small extension tube and maybe 15cm high tripod.Feedback
The Finnish winter is marvelous at its best. At its worst it is black and wet. Always go out when its clear and cold. Seek running water or seaside.
