Location
This shot was taken at the Montreal Chinese Lantern Festival. This yearly event showcases different lantern shapes every year. It is a very popular destination and is visited by many photographers.Time
This was shortly after sunset,a round 8PM when the lanterns contrast greatly with the surrounding darkness.Lighting
One of the tricks is to line up the shot so other illumination does not creep into the frame. It is best when the lantern is isolated in the image.Equipment
A canon 70D camera with a Tamron 18-270 zoom lens. A tripod is best for night time shooting.Inspiration
I had wanted to visit this festival for quite some time. It happens once a year and it is best to go during the week when it is less crowded. I also wanted to go an evening with clear skies and if possible little moonlight.Editing
Very little post-processing done on the image. In my camera bag
Nothing else aside from the equipment used for the shot. But some people had wide angle lenses to capture the bigger arrangements.Feedback
If you plan to visit this attraction, you can make it a day and visit the adjoining Japanese gardens, or even the Insectarium if you are into bugs. There are also botanical arrangements, so enough photo ops for a good half day.
