Bismuth typically turns a rainbow of colors after it forms an oxide layer during transformation. This particular time we created bismuth crystals, they did not form an oxide layer. We haven't been able to repeat the silver bismuth effect since.

I realized I needed to tell people this is not actually a true black and white photo. That is just how pure of a silver finish this bismuth came out to be. If you don't believe me, see for yourself. Take a closer look at the top left you can see some of the tungsten light reflecting off the surface creating a tan shading there.
