A passerby demonstrates as smoke rises from the Pentagon, which was hit by a jetliner deliberately crashed into it, killing all passengers aboard as well as significant numbers of people on the ground. I was at National Airport that morning to begin a business trip. I walked back from the airport over the 14th St Bridge into the ciity and saw this man standing before the pall of smoke rising from the pentagon as it burned. Several people with whom I had worked died in the part of the Pentagon hit by the airliner. As I thought at the moment I took this photo, nothing ever would be the same ever after. I was right, much has changed, and not for the better.
