Behind The Lens

Location

In my chicken coop just south of my house by the south field.

Time

Around evening. After we were playing with some kittens we found in the old barn, I decided to take a few snapshots of a chicken or two.

Lighting

Since it was close to the end of the day the lighting was soft and very even.

Equipment

I used a Canon PowerShot ELPH 150.

Inspiration

I really enjoy hanging out with the chickens and sitting in the chicken coop after school in the morning sometimes and I decided to take some photos of some of the details of the interesting birds.

Editing

Nope clean and simple!

In my camera bag

Usually my Canon PowerShot ELPH 150, a tripod, and an extra memory card (just in case I take one to many photos).

Feedback

When capturing chickens I like to get close to them, not too close, and either squat or sit down. If I do this they will be more comfortable because my size has been shortened and my eye level is now with theirs. I then grab a chicken and hold down her wings and place her against my hip, so I can hold her with one hand, and get a portrait. A good thing to do when photographing chickens is to be calm and not to run after them or be jumpy/crazy for they will get riled up and be harder to catch/hold. For this particular photo I shot, I made sure she was calm and then snapped a few photos.
