Location
Near my hometown after an evening chasing northern lights, on the way back I noticed how the ice had frozen and laid on the shore as the tide had gone out and made some really cool textures and cracks so I found the nicest protrusion and lit it up from behind.Time
This was 5 o'clock in the morning after being out all night.Lighting
I had a small aperture as I wanted a lot in focus a graphic image without too much detail in the sky, and I dont like blown highlights. got low and tried several times so that I could get a nice lighting on the ice.Equipment
I shoot on a crop factor canon 550d with a surui tripod, I tried with flash as well but the graphic look that came from this one light source was the most pleasing to the eye.Inspiration
the ice had frozen and laid on the shore as the tide had gone out and made some really cool textures and cracks so I found the nicest protrusion and lit it up from behind. and that is something i have not seen very often.Editing
bring the highlights down as I dont like them being to powerful and shadows up enough to bring the textures in the ice and some of my usual edits but no special retouching on this image. In my camera bag
some flashes, matches, steal wool, camera body a lens or two, two flashes unless something special planned and then I bring 3, a flashlight memory cards and a must have a steady tripod!Feedback
go out in the early morning in winter or spring with cold nights after the tide has gone out. and some steal wool just in case =D
