Location
I live near the Ocala airport in Ocala, Florida. I like this spot because it had a nearly clear view to the horizon and I had come here a number of times to catch sunsets when the sun was at it's lowest point shining through the normal pollution creating the most stunning colors. This lone tree had been struck with lightening about a month earlier and was steadily losing branches. The tree fell about a wee after this shot.Time
It was near 7:00 P.M. and this was a spot I frequented because of it's clear view to the horizon and I was able to catch the sun at it's lowest point shining through the normal pollution creating stunning colors.Lighting
I used a 1/16 aperture for maximum depth of field, ISO 200, a shutter speed 1/90 and focal length of 58. It's always a bit tricky shooting into the sun and I had tried several combinations before choosing this one. I believe what made this photograph was a combination of shooting at the golden hour and catching that color in the clouds.Equipment
This was shot with a Canon 5D Mark 11, 24-105 Zoom lens hand held.Inspiration
I like shooting during the time of day the sun is at it's lowest point and you get that golden color in the air, combine this with interesting clouds above the sunset and a dramatic subject and you might get a winner.Editing
I increased the saturation a bit, darkened it slightly, adjusted the contrast and cropped it.In my camera bag
A Canon 5D Mark 11, 24-105 Canon Zoom Lens, Polarizing Filter, Remote Shutter Button, Extra Battery, Memory Cards, etc.Feedback
Be prepared, have your equipment packed and ready to go, plan ahead an area you want to shoot and the time of day the sun will be at it's best angle to achieve the results your after and take lots of shots with various combinations, but even then you'll have to be patient to get that just right combination of sun angle, clouds, and a dramatic focal point.
