What a beautiful way to capture the city lights and wonderful silhouette of a photographer. Perfect title. Congratulations on being a Finalist.

Location
This shot was made at Griffith Park in Los Angeles. My friend and I had travelled up there from Tijuana, Mexico to join in on a photo walk.Time
By the time I shot this, the photowalk was over and everyone was split off and had started to go home. So it must have been approaching midnight. I was looking for a composition that wasn't the popular shot over the observatory but where we could still see the sprawl of the city.Lighting
This was shot in natural light. We could have lit with flash or a car but then I feel the shot would have lost a little of the mystery it has. Lighting the main subject would also have detracted from the colours of the city lights and washed out the beautiful blue tones in the sky.Equipment
This was shot using a Nikon D3200 and a 50mm 1.8, I think. I was quite some time ago now, so I'm not 100% on the lens! Also a tripod!Inspiration
We were looking for a different composition that still looked out over and could immediately be identified as Los Angeles, when I saw my friend handholding a shot at a 90degree angle to the city. I'm still not sure exactly what it was he was trying to shoot but he had already given me the idea for this. I asked him to hold up his camera as though he was shooting again and reeled of a few of my own...Editing
This has a minimal amount of post processing really and it only required a little work in lightroom to bring out the colours. Contrast and clarity were given a little bump.In my camera bag
Camera body. I'm still using that same D3200! One day I might be able to get a new one but that day isn't today! The 50mm 1.8 is usually in my bag as it is just so versatile. There is hardly a situation where it won't come in useful. The same goes for my 105mm macro. One lens that I have found myself using more and more is my 18-55mm kit lens. I used to omit it all the time in favour of more expensive lenses but for what it is, it really is a little workhorse. Now the only time I don't have it is if I am only doing top down food photography, as gravity can pull it out of focus. I still try it out though, it often surprises me. I also have a flash and wireless trigger system that goes everywhere...Feedback
If you live in a city that has hills, then you're halfway there! Just don't forget your tripod!
