Behind The Lens
Location
Woking park, within a clearing in the forest.Time
Afternoon time to capture the right amount of light.Lighting
I needed a decent amount of light to give me more to work with during digital manipulation. The clearing in the forest helped prevent shadows from any close by trees.Equipment
Canon 600D, EFS 18-55mm lens and a tripod.Inspiration
Codes and conventions of fairytales were the main focus and inspiration. Judith butler was also a big influence to this piece. After doing a critical essay on gender and the performative, i was inspired by the theories surrounding how we perform our gender roles.Editing
After tweaking the raw file most of my processing is done afterwards in the digital manipulation process. In my camera bag
Canon 600D, 430EX 2 canon speedlite, portable flash gun soft box light diffuser, 75 - 300mm zoom lens, EF 50mm lens, wireless camera trigger and SD memory cards.Feedback
Be very experimental. For something like this I'd advise constructing an idea first. Do sketches and plan roughly how you would like to frame your image and what position you would like your model subjects in. Choose model subjects wisely to ensure the desired outcome for your piece. Be patient and still experiment when shooting your idea, something else may create more of on an impact; for your purpose. When creating an image with deep and hidden meaning i advise you to research! Gain inspirations from other images and literature or anything that would help. Choose your colour palette wisely and when performing digital manipulation, take your time to ensure your outcome is a replica of your vision.
