Behind The Lens

Location

This photo was taken on the amazing Fraser Island in Queensland Australia. A 3 hour drive from Brisbane and a barge ride over to the island. It's a massive national park only accessed by barge and it's a photographers dream, from the crystal clear waters of lake Mckenzie and Eli creek, stunning beaches, bush land and incredible sand dunes. It is also home to many dingos!

Time

This photo was taken just after sunrise around 7am with the beautifully lit blue morning skies.

Lighting

I left it all up to Mother Nature! As you can see one side of the boat is well lit and the other side shady. I think this created a great contrast.

Equipment

I used my old Samsung dslr.

Inspiration

Having seeing the history of this boat in one of the island shops I was really looking forward to photographing it as it had history behind it. It was one of the first turbine built ships back in 1905 and was comissioned as a medical ship In WW1 before having an accident on the shore of Fraser Island. Luckily there were no casualties.

Editing

None at all I like the way the picture looked in its original state and didn't want to tamper with it.

In my camera bag

Camera of course, lenses, filters, always spare batteries and blow sticks and sparklers for light painting.

Feedback

I always find pictures like this one are always better at sunrise or sunset as it creates different shades of the blue sky. I also did this shot at high tide so I could get a nice sheen of water along the sand.
