Location
This was taken on a small game farm just outside Johannesburg, South Africa.Time
This was about 6am. The area is well known for it's early morning Ballooning and they launch a couple of hundred meter's away, which worked out perfectly for the shot.Lighting
Shooting into the sun you always have to stop down quite a bit to avoid burning out the sun and that creates perfect silhouette opportunities.Equipment
This was taken with a Canon 550D and the 18-135mm lens, hand held.Inspiration
I was up early and being on a game farm. With the balloonist's out doing their thing and the Giraffe pretty close and quite tame, I realized there could be something quite unique happening composition wise as the balloon was moving into a perfect position with the sun, I just needed to find the right angle. The Giraffe was also moving it's head around a bit so it was just a matter of patience before all the elements lined up.Editing
Not retouching, just changed the contrast and brightness a bit to crunch the blacks and warmed the white balance slightly. In my camera bag
Now a days I still carry my 550D as back up but have a 5D mklll, EF16-35mm 2.8, EF24-70 2.8, EF 70-200mm 2.8. 2 x extender. EF 50mm 1.8Feedback
With any wildlife photography you need patience and always be aware of your surroundings. Know you camera so you can quickly change your settings, things happen fast in the bush and you need to be ready. Get out early for the best light.
