Location
The photo was taken at the lake of Servieres ( le Lac de Servières ) in Auvergne, France.Time
The lake of Servieres is a sunrise spot but the photo was taken in a cold winter afternon during a cloudy day.Lighting
Due to the clouds the light was very soft and there were no shade. It allowed to have a soft light wich created a calm atmosphere and allowed to have the same luminosity between the snowy trees and the reflection in the lake.Equipment
This was shot using a Canon 6D and a Canon 24-105mm f4 L IS USM lens, mounted on an Vanguard Alta Pro 236AT tripod.Inspiration
Most of the lake was covered by ice and snow, only this small part wasn't frozen. When I walked around the lake I saw these reflections in the water and I found it magnificent.Editing
I just add some contrast and vignet so that the photo seems less flat and monotonous. In my camera bag
I use a Canon 6D with a Canon 24-105mm f4 L IS USM lens, I bring a flash and torch (to light my nightscape), a headlamp and an intervalometer ( for star trail). I also have a Lee big stopper filter (ND10), and extension rings (to do macro). All that stuff allows me to be prepared to most landscape situations. I also bring with me a bottle of water and a little food, because after three hours making photo I am often hungry or thirsty. And I bring a Sirui T-1204X tripod or a Vanguard Alta Pro 236AT tripod.Feedback
If you want to make photos of reflections in a lake you have to to get up early because generally it's during sunrise that there are the least winds and waves on the water. If you want to make a photo based on symmetry effect, the line of a symmetry has to be straight and be in the middle of the photo (not one centimeter above or under).
