Location
In an large outdoor market in Mysore, South India.Time
I waited until about 1 in the afternoon for the light to be better.Lighting
I first saw this subject in early morning but there were too many shadows over the subject so I returned at about 1 PM so the sun was overhead a better illuminated the intense colors of the large bags of pigments.Equipment
I travel to India every year to photograph, primarily in markets & crowded streets. I find a good quality Canon point/shoot camera to be more inconspicuous & faster to get the shot I want. This was a small Canon SX250.Inspiration
I'm a professional artist, [Painter] who is greatly inspired by the color of South India and Rajasthan. When I saw these large bags of bright colored pigments I thought I'd died & gone to Heaven.Editing
I do not use photoshop but I did crop the edges on iPhoto & slightly sharpen I also removed a small object in the upper left hand corner. In my camera bag
I carry a Nikon D7100 camera with a 18-140 lens, 55-300mm lens and a Canon SX700 point/shoot with a 30x zoom. Also extra batteries, memory card.Feedback
First smile at the shopkeeper & communicate that you like his wares & ASK if they mind if you photograph. If possible walk around the subject and also look at it from different heights to find your most dynamic composition and lighting. If you are able to speak with the shopkeeper find out about the subject, i.e.. how it is used, any cultural significance, religious, etc. THANK THEM!!
