i took this photo in a piano shop, place that belongs to a friend.Time
i took this picture indoor in a rather dark place , so the timing was not relevant in terms of quality picture. it was just before noon.Lighting
lightning was mostly artificial, i tried to grasp a bit of natural light with a reflector but no great difference, therefore i needed to use a bit of flash at 1/4 of powerEquipment
i used my Canon 5D II with my fix 50mm lens at 1,8 aperture that allowed me the clarity on the hands and the bit of blur i wanted on the face. this configuration helps me also to gain lightInspiration
As a jazz producer, i have the chance to meet and work with great musicians and Mathias Aspelin actually belongs to the type. He has a very personal way to hit the keys and is really worth the shot!Editing
i shot in a shop that means a lot of potential pollution, and i wanted a lot of negative space, so i processed a bit the background by cleaning it with PS, and i reduced also a bit the noise. There is no crop, this was my intentional framing. In my camera bag
canon 5D II with lenses 24/105,70/200,50 macro,flash speedlite 430 EXII a spare 400 D tripod ManfrottoFeedback
my best advices: shoot a real good musician, his skills and passion will help you a lot to shoot the right moment. Of course you need the right equipment to achieve the photos you expect. Shooting musicians is always a great experience in terms of technical issues but also emotions, as matter of fact, i do sometimes understand and enjoy music better now with my eyes than with my ears... Happy Shooting!
