Location
It was taken in Shell Canyon just west of Shell Falls in northern WyomingTime
About 8 am following an early snowstorm.Lighting
It was natural early morning lighting.Equipment
I used a Pentax K 30 camera with a Sigma 50-500 lens at about 80mm, shut down to f/11. I didn't record the speed. Window bean bag, I could not get out of my vehicle due to very treacherous iceInspiration
I had planned a trip to Yellowstone, but the storm moved through during the night and the roads were bad, so I opted to go as far up the Big Horns as I could instead, this turn out about 25 miles from my house was as far as I felt safe due to the roads. This is a very scenic area and the lighting was great, I was really inspired by the white snow frosted trees surrounding the peak as it reflected the early morning sun.Editing
Primarily just contrast in Lightroom. It didn't need much else.In my camera bag
I carry a Pentax K-30, which is my primary camera, also a Pentax K-01 mirrorless mostly for back up. I carry my Sigma 50-500 on the K-30 most of the time because I am always for wildlife living so close to the Big Horn Mountains. I also have a Lumix FZ 70 that I always keep with me for very long shots. I carry 2 lenses besides the Sigma, a Pentax 80-320 and an elderly Tokina 18-30 manual focus lens dating to film camera days.Feedback
The first 2 things that come to mind is clearing weather after a storm and early morning or late evening hours. Of course living so close to the mountains helps a lot. The biggest thing, I think, is paying attention to the lighting and watching for good light.
