The little fox can be seen from March to the end of October, in 2 to 3 overlapping generations. Butterflies emerging from the pupa late in the summer hibernate first and then reproduce. The specimens that emerge from the pupa early in the summer can produce another small generation before the hibernation period.
The female deposits her eggs, in groups of 40 to 60, on the underside of the leaves of the stinging nettle.
The caterpillars make a silken nest by spinning several leaves together. In this way, they jointly feed on the leaves of the plant. When a plant is bare, they move to another plant. Once they have eaten enough, the caterpillars leave the plants and pupate in the surrounding vegetation.
