Behind The Lens

Location

The photo was taken in my studio in Rijswijk, The Netherlands.

Time

I met with dancer Salomé Oliveira (@salomejpoliveira) in the afternoon. As the light was controlled by studio flashes, the ambient light was not relevant.

Lighting

Two studio flashes with tele-reflector and honeycomb wer placed left and right behind the model. She is standing on and in front of a white paper background which remains dark as almost no light hits it.

Equipment

The photo was taken with a Nikon D800, a Tamron 70-200mm, a radio-triggered and two studio flashes with tele-reflector and honeycomb. The model is in a long, flexible hose in front of a white paper background.

Inspiration

The fabric surrounds the model in a way that gives you the impression that she is caught in a net. Her pose emphasises her struggle with it. I just love the out of this world feeling.

Editing

I did some minor post processing (crop, exposure, contrast).

In my camera bag

What I carry really depends on the shoot. For a studio shoot like this I usually carry a Nikon D800, a Nikkor 85mm, a Tamron 70-200mm, radio triggers, batteries, model releases.

Feedback

Have fun! Play with the light, see its effect in combination with your model's pose. Be patient with your model, it's not easy being stuck in a flexible fabric like this. Salomé Oliveira (@salomejpoliveira) is a great dancer and did a wonderful job.
