Coots in the UK are fish eaters, and although the Cray are mostly not native to the country, the Coots appear to have a liking for them, even though they also eat plant material. Now the breeding season is on its way, the Coots must fight for their territories. The white cover on the front of its face is often bigger on males, and is used to challenge other Coots especially to determine the outcome of a fight. Coots are normally caring parents, but it is quite often seen where they are attempting to drown what is believed to be their own young! They are such moody little birds.
