These flowers, also known as 'Tommies', are one of the earliest Crocuses to flower in the year. When the sun is shining, the flower opens and becomes inviting to insects, but when it rains or is dark, the bud closes. Most of my Macro pictures are taken in the gardens or local area at the moment, and so far it has been rather interesting!

These were named after a famous botanist who was Mayor of the Austro-Hungarian city of Trieste. The name was Muzio Giuseppe Spirito de Tommasini. They are native to Albania, Bulgaria, Hungary , and what used to be Yugoslavia.
