I took this photo after a severe ice storm hit the farm. The storm knocked out our power for almost 2 weeks in 20 degree weather and our heat source is electric baseboard heaters. Therefore we went without heat and electric for almost 2 weeks.
So...what is a photographer to do if the inside of the house is as cold as the outside? Of course...you got it! I bundled up warm, grabbed my camera and dogs, and we went out for lots and lots of winter Iceland fantasy fun.
This photo was taken as soon as the storm let up. The trees, grass, power lines, etc. were all covered in thick ice. I could hear the gunshot like sounds of trees and tree branches snapping under the ice. It really did sound like there were many guns going off in the forest, but it was just the trees. I wanted to go into the forest to get photos but knew that would be very dangerous with the trees falling, so we settled on staying in the fields and road to get the photos.
