Location
This photo was taken on site at a wildlife management area run by the state of West Virginia. The landscape and backgrounds there are stunning and provide a spectacular canvas for photography in general.Time
Our photo shoot lasted from late morning until the early evening. We started around 11 am and finished up around 6pm or so. This image was captured later in the shoot.Lighting
All of the light in this image is natural. It was a sunny day but we were protected from the direct light by the shade of the trees in this image.Equipment
This image was shot using my Canon 5DsR and my Canon 70-200mm F2.8 IS USM II lens. The camera was free held.Inspiration
During a photo shoot earlier in the year, I captured a few photos of Cece smoking during a break. The photos turned out great and we tried to do something with the smoke on this shoot. This image is one of the results. I wanted to get a close in shot of her beautiful face and skin with the smoke coming out of her mouth.Editing
I edited the image into black and white and brought up the detail a little bit. I dodged and burned slightly over a few spots and that was it. I have about one minute of editing time in this image. In my camera bag
I carry two Canon bodies with my main go to lenses being 24-105mm, 70-200mm, 150-600mm, 85mm F1.8, and a set of macro extension rings. I also carry a Vanguard 204AB tripod, the Flashpoint TTL speedlite that I won here on Viewbug, and some filters along with spare batteries and cards.Feedback
Capturing sharp images showing this kind of texture of the skin requires good lighting, a steady hand or tripod, and your focus must be on perfectly. This image was taken at ISO 320 and shutter speed 1/400 at F5.6. Diffused light is best, or be in light shade.
