Over the weekend I had the chance to fulfill a dream of mine which was to do a wedding shoot under the Milky Way. The couple are friends of mine and when they asked me to do an astro shoot for their wedding, I couldn't say no.
This is a 40 frame ppanorama capturing the newly wedded couple exploring the ancient pinnacles desert under the pristine west-australian night sky.
The 12 degree coastal breeze made it challenging to keep the couple warm and during the 17 minutes it took to capture this photosphere.
I've shot with the D750 and 20mm f1.8G combo quite a bit and know that it takes 40 frames to capture an entire photosphere with the camera in landscape orientation. I directed the couple to the exact position they had to stand at and told them to just be relaxed while the camera was capturing the sky. This took about 8 minutes.
When it was time to capture the foreground, I turned on the wireless transmitter for the speedlight and asked the groom to raise it up at the start of every exposure and then relax himself again. This is so we can keep the lighting consistent between frames while keeping their strength up before they held the pose.
Just before the camera was pointing at them, I dashed towards them and collected their jackets and told them to assume the pose and hold it there for the next 3 frames, which took a total of 65 seconds to capture. I quickly ran back to them and gave them their jackets.
So while they did stand in the position for the entire 17 minutes it took to capture this image, they only stood still in that pose for a total of 65 seconds.
