This crablike spider has bitten the honeybee, paralyzing it. Taking advantage of the situation is a very brave (or foolish) blackfly which you can see sucking the body fluid from the honeybee, dangerously close to the spider. Lucky for the blackfly, the spider is busy with the bee. The blackfly's abdomen is distended from gorging on the bee. There is in addition, a Varroa Mite attached to it's thorax.(dark red spot just in front of the spider's eyes) These mites are harming or destroying many Honeybee colonies. This entire drama takes place on a space the size of a quarter.
