This photograph was taken from the Melbourne Loop end of Donington Park Racing Circuit in Castle Donington, Derbyshire UK. East Midlands Airport is not far from the circuitTime
This picture was taken around 1.30pm in the afternoon during Race 1 of the British Superbike ChampionshipsLighting
I was outside so the only light available was natural light. The day, up to that point, had been grey and overcast, but, when I took this picture the sun had just started to come outEquipment
This was one of the first shots I took on my new Canon EOS1200D. I was leaning on a couple of the fence posts to keep the camera steady. The only thing I used was my camera and my Canon zoom lens EF 75-300mm 1:4-5.6Inspiration
I have been a huge motorbike fan for a number of years and had started taking photos with my previous camera, a Panasonic Lumix but they weren't very good. So when I got my new camera I took it to Donington when I took my daughter and where we stood at the Melbourne loop the bikes come down to the loop and for me its a good place to get a head on shot the bike and the rider. However I wasn't expecting the plane and quickly took the shot hoping it would come out, which it did. I wasn't sure how it would turn out, or even if it would. I had no idea what it would look like but I was happy with the result. The opportunity presented itself and I just thought it would make a good photographEditing
I try to do as little editing as possible as I like my photographs to look as natural as possible. However, I have learnt that some images demand more editing than others to get the desired effect. When I took this one I had just started to edit in black and white and was one of my first attempts. In my camera bag
Apart from my Canon EOS1200D and my zoom EF 75-300mm lens I also have a macro 0.25m/0.8ft lens, three convertors for macro work that are 13mm, 21mm and 31mm, a lens hood, 4 spare rechargeable batteries and battery charger, lens wipes and air puffer to clean the lenses and sensor.Feedback
This image I took was completely unexpected. It was not one I could plan for. I could have tried and sat there for the entire three days of the race meet and not got the shot. However the opportunity came and I wasn't ready so it was really hit or miss whether I actually got the shot or not. Luckily I did. So the only advice I can give is to "Always Be Ready" and to "Be Patient". Always be ready for that unexpected shot, always have your camera ready to go should an unexpected, but potentially fabulous shot, should present itself to you. If you are not ready and your camera is not ready you could miss that one shot. That has happened to me and it is something I have learnt from and when I am out my camera is always in my hands ready to go should the unexpected. The shot you want may take days, weeks, months or even years to get. Despite me going to Donington Park every year and standing in the same spot at the bottom of the Melbourne Loop, I have never been able to recapture another image similar to my image "Land and Sky".
