Behind The Lens

Location

This photo was taken in the mountains around Akureyri, Iceland.

Time

Late morning.

Lighting

Normally I would have tried to shot with out the sun directly behind the subject, but I had no choice this time as we were driving the husky away from the sun. How ever in this case it came out quite well, though there is still a little bleaching.

Equipment

OLYMPUS TG-4 for this photo. I had both my Canon 6D and this camera with me, however the Canon was set up with distance in mind. So I was using this camera with a fish eye lens to grab closeups. The TG-4 is a fantastic little pocket camera that never ceases to amaze me.

Inspiration

We were taken to a beautiful location in the mountains on a sunny winters day to spend the morning learning how to drive huskies. I've dreamed of doing this for ages, and was finally given the chance to, and it didn't disappoint. The Huskies were so happy and eager, they couldn't wait to get the day started. I wanted to catch the 'Team' with this photo, in the front the dogs, strong, intelligent and proud, and in our case, the people, following behind.

Editing

I ran the photo through Googles Nix HDR effects to balance out the brightness of the sky and the slight shadowing on the dogs faces

In my camera bag

I tend to always carry my Canon 6D normally with the Sigma 10-20 on, in the bag are Sigmas 18 -125 and 150 - 500, lots of spare batteries and memory card, a set of filters, my OLYMPUS TG-4, cleaning equipment, spare change, food and drink. And in the boot of the car lives a tri-pod and wellies. You never know when you might need the wellies.
