A solitary remaining cattle truck used by the Nazi's to move people from all over Europe to Auswitch Birkenau, where 1.6 million are estimated to have been murdered. Even though long abandoned the guard towers still have an imposing presence over the whole site.

It is a journey that i believe everybody should make in their life time. It has a profound effect on everyone that goes, it simply changes the way you look at life. All the I wants, I needs you had disappear, and you become extremely grateful that you live the life you do and have the Freedom that you have.

When we went it was snowing sideways and only heightened the experience of that formidable place. I had on 3-4 layers and was still cold to my core. But then you get told that people were made to stand there for up to 20hrs in the equivalent to pyjama's in conditions like this on a daily basis, you have no right to complain.

This experience and the knowledge I gained at Auswitch Birkenau will stay with me for life. And I would not change that.

Immediately upon seeing this photo, I knew exactly what it was. Although I didn't go here, I did travel to Dachau (near Munich) and words can not adequately describe the sense one gets while visiting these very sacred grounds. I had goosebumps the entire time that I was there, and they weren't good ones either.
Very emotive, and nice composition.

Thank you for writing what you thought, felt and experienced when visiting a place such as this. the image conveys some of that, but not all.
It is important for people throughout the world, to share what they have experienced in the places they live and traveled to, so we can all learn from tragic events and build a better society despite them.
