Behind The Lens

Location

I took this photo in Charleroi (Belgium) in a dancing studio where the teacher Antonella is a ballet dancer but teaches also Latin dance...salsa!

Time

I travelled one hour all the way from Brussels to come to Charleroi in the afternoon around 4 PM and climb all the 4 floors to install my lightings to get ready for the shooting. It was in the beginning of February 2017.

Lighting

I started with a soft box 50x50cm and umbrella on the other side 45° from the dancer. But I am not sure how we place the light finally because we change the set up completely.

Equipment

I shoot with the Canon EOS 5D Mark III and the lens was a Canon EF 24-105mm f/4L IS USM 93mm ƒ/4 1/60s ISO 160.I have always a tripod to start with and because the model is fairly at ease then I keep it manuel to come closer.

Inspiration

We did a couple of shot on the floor and we finished at least 60 or 70 shoots. Most of the shots are improvise we go as the model gets comfortable. Can we say intuition here or maybe the model is really doing exactly what is needed and asked.

Editing

the most obvious with lightroom nothing extravagant at that stage.

In my camera bag

Canon EOS 5D Mark III Canon EF 24-105mm f/4L IS USM lens 85mm f/1,8 lens 70-200 f/2,8

Feedback

Be gentle and respectful with the model, use a friendly voice.Adapt yourself don't impose to much and slowly get into the mood and things unfold by themselves as you go! Don't expect anything or it comes a frustration in case you cannot reach your goal. Your anger is immediately convey to the model and she can become stiff and stresses.
