Location
This image was taken in the Kruger National Park South Africa.Time
First vechile out the gate at 6am and went a fair way out to a water hole that i had seen the day before. Drove in and there he was dragging the remains of a Zebra out of the water.Lighting
The first few hours of light were nice and soft then after the sun started to rise the light became too harsh. I was photographing with a 800mm lens and the heat started to play games with the lens over a long distance.Equipment
I used the Cannon 1DX Mark ii full frame on the 800 mm with the bean bag on the window sill of the vechile. This is a very heavy lens and normally it will produce pin sharp images but the early images i took were not that pleasing to the eye so used one that i had taken later in the day but the heat was already at work so not so sharp . The park was also in drought so there was no green vegetation what so ever so all images were shot across hot bare ground.Inspiration
Well you really dont need much inspiration its more about trying to control your emotions and stay calm so you can get the camera settings spot on. After you get a few in the bag then you tend to settle back a bit and check a few settings on the camera. I know there are many Leopard images around but taking your own images is pretty special.Editing
Small amount of sharpening. In my camera bag
I carry aCannon 7D Mark ii with a 70=200mm lens and a macro 100mm lens. I also have a flash set up for macro work in my bag.Feedback
Rise early get away from the traffic go down all the back roads and find your own patch. Be patience , and make sure the camera has been checked for settings as i tend to change setting every time i photograph a bird or animal. A lot of photographers forget to check and change and then they have the wrong settings for the next image in front of them.
