Location
I was working at the fantastic RC Studios in Baltimore which is an old shirt factory with floor to ceiling windows and ample ambient light. Assisting me were Ron Cesar and Donna WashingtonTime
Early afternoon. The large windows and light white curtains gave me plenty of shadow free light.Lighting
I used prime lenses and manual settings for parts of the shoot. Vintage prime lenses make me feel more in control of the ISO situation by controlling the aperture more tightly.Equipment
Canon 5D Mk II, 55mm f/1.2 Nikkor F lens. Also Canon EF 28-105.Inspiration
The model, Hedy Nerito. She was a pro at making poses happen! If you're ever in Milan, Italy, look her up.Editing
All I did was make it grayscale. In my camera bag
Digital: Canon 5D Mk II, Canon T3, Pentax K3. Film: Nikon F, Ricohflex 120. Lenses: Canon EF 28-105, Canon EF 70-300 IS, Canon EF-S 18-55 IS, Nikkor S 55mm f/1.2, G.Zuiko 50mm f/1.4, 8mm fisheye, Tamron 70-200 f/2.8, Pentax 28mm f/2.0Feedback
Hire the right model and learn manual skills. Use a studio with natural light and lots of props. This is a good time to mention that I shot awesome flash photos in that old warehouse later that year so get to know flash properties (meaning GN's, distance calculation, remote triggers).
