Behind The Lens

Location

This photo was taken on a hike I went on with my family near Washington Pass.

Time

This photo was taken sometime in the early afternoon if I remember correctly.

Lighting

The only lighting I used that day was from the sun.

Equipment

This was taken with a Nikon D5300 with a 70-300mm Zoom lens.

Inspiration

To be honest, this was only a very lucky moment. Inspiration didn't play a big role here, but luck did. We were stopping for a small break during our hike, and this beautiful blue moth happened to land on my sister's hand.

Editing

I used photoshop to take out the color in the background and bring out the blues in the moth's wings. Besides that, very little was done to the photo.

In my camera bag

Well, I am very young, which means I have little money to spend on equipment, therefore none of my equipment is exactly top notch. But I make it work. First and foremost, I have a Nikon D5300 body with a battery grip attachment. Then I have a Nikkor 70-300mm zoom lens. I also have a Nikkor 18-55mm lens. My tripod is a 62 inch Dolica Proline. All packed in my Evecase DSLR backpack.

Feedback

My best advice is just to be patient. This was truly a lucky moment. Another piece of advice that many photographers give me, and that I would like to pass on is, take pictures of everything, and take your time. Take time to use manual focus and get your settings right.
