Location
This is the Tokyo Imperial Palace and the beautiful gardens. This palace was the permanent home of the Imperial family in 1869. The bridge is the Seimon Ishibashi bridge that leads to the main gate of the Imperial Palace. I was standing on the road facing the palace.Time
This photo was taken at 10:41AM on 10/3/2012.Lighting
The light was an overcast day. This made the color more saturated and made the water look like a mirror. The photo reminded me of the ancient Japanese paintings because the tranquility of the location.Equipment
Camera -Canon EOS REBEL T3I ;Lens is one of my favorite walk around lenses standard zoom Canon EF-S 18-135mm f3.5-5.5 IS ;hand held photo;no flash: Fstop F/8 Exposure 1/200sec ISO 100.Focal length 69mm set on program Landscape Mode,Auto white balance. The Rebel is a wonderful camera! I like how the Rebel is a teaching camera that has given me a good foundation .I love Canon cameras.I now mostly shoot with a Canon 7D Mark 2.Inspiration
Historical sites entrust me. I was inspired by the location of the Japanese Imperial Palace and the calm and quiet location had a Zen feeling .The water, the bridge, the trees, the moss on the hill reminded me of Japanese painted .The antique painting on silk paper forming scrolls that hung as art in Japanese art museums. This inspired me to do post work on the photo to make the photo look like a painting with a classic style.Editing
In Lightroom I saturated the color ,sharpens all the photo , burned the sky and water to give the photo a look of a painting. Thankful to the cloudy day this contributed to a great exposure to work with in post.In my camera bag
I try to travel light the equipment is determined by the shoot. Currently I shoot with a Canon 7D MARK 2 . LENS 50MM, Wide angle lens, telephoto lens,SD Cards, three batteries, white balance filter tool, and the manual for the camera .Feedback
Research the background of the location. Practice taking a variety of photo before travel to prepare for the travel quick exposures.High profile locations may have many tourists so when on a tour possibly taking a photo as the group is involved with a commentary can result in a desired photo location although when taking a photo keep an eye on your tour group so you do not get lost.On cruises ships excursion tour discussions, travel port adviser, the tour desk ,photo groups ,computer classes ,and other passengers can be helpful to research future photo at the next ports. Enjoy your trip and I am looking forward to seeing your adventures!
