Thanks again Karen. It will be a sad day when such a photographic landmark, for around here at least, disappears. Its not internationally reknown but still adds a little special somewthing to the foreground. Regards Dan

This image was taken on Dicky Beach on the Sunshine Coast, Queensland, Australia.Time
This image was captures around 20 minutes after sunrise.Lighting
The sunrise had been and gone and was fairly plain in terms of the color it could add to the atmosphere. The time this image was shot, the sky was starting to lighten. The clouds were moving fairly fast so it was difficult to work out what kind of exposure time I should use.Equipment
A Sony A77 with a Tokina 11-16mm with a 10 stop, Lee Big Stopper all mounted on a Vanguard Tripod. I used a remote release and shot in Bulb mode.Inspiration
This was one of the last images I captured of this old wreck. There were safety concerns about its state and the closeness the swimmers get to it on this major surf beach. I spent many mornings down there once I heard they were going to remove it, as did many other local photographers. On the morning this image was captured, there must have been at least 10 people all trying to catch the sunrise with the wreck in the foreground. At the time this image was captured, I was the last one on the beach. Persistence and patience does pay off sometimes.Editing
This was the second long exposure image I captured trying to gauge the quickly changing light in combination with the change in cloud cover. I initially thought it was over exposed but was able to bring it back in Adobe Raw. Basic adjustments were to drop the exposure by over 2 stops and then boost the colors. That's just about it. The vignette is something that the Big Stopper and the Tokina lens tends to do all by themselves.In my camera bag
I have Sony camera bodies and many different lenses including some new and lots of the old Minolta. I never go on any shoot without 2 bodies, a ultrawide (I love the Tokina for its sharpness), a Minolta 28-75 2.8, a Sigma 70-200 2.8 and a Minolta 50mm macro. I always take a CPL and mounts for a 100x100mm filter kit for each of my lenses. I use Lee and NiSi filters including ND and soft grads. I take a Vanguard CF tripod and ball head and for most shots I use a cable release. I've upgraded to a A7M2 and this adds another dimension to what the newer full frame sensors can capture. I have been shooting a Minolta 17-35 on this and for the price, its a great lens for its age.Feedback
Try something different. There was not a great deal of color on the morning this image was taken. All the other photographers probably left a little disappointed with what they had captured. The color is important but its not the subject. I really wanted to capture as many types of images of this old wreck, before it was gone. Carrying filters enable a different style of image to be captured and when you start shooting long exposures (>3 minutes) it really makes you think about what you want to capture. Filters have really slowed down my initial machine gun style of shooting. This is a good thing :) Quality not quantity. With the long exposures on this day, I was disappointed when I saw the first of the long exposure images on the back of the camera. It was a little dark, hence the long length of time for this second image. Initially I was also disappointed with the overexposed view on the back of the camera. It is amazing what the software can bring back from a Sony Raw file, if the exposures are a little (or sometimes a lot) off. Keep the images you capture and only delete them once you've viewed and processed them on a decent monitor. Don't chimp. Get out and enjoy.
