Location
I took this picture in my backyard. I live on a 4th Generation 100 acre farm, owned by my husbands family in Missouri. I am a country girl at heart and this place is definitely country!Time
This was shot at around 5:00 pm.Lighting
I try to shoot in early morning or early evening. It limits the harsh light and shadows and casts everything in a softer light.Equipment
I used a Canon Rebel XSI. 70-300 mm Canon lens, ISO 200, 1/400 , f/7.1, handheld, no flashInspiration
I really enjoy shooting all things natural/nature. I overlook these very small butterflies too often and decided to try to capture one. They have turned out to be one of my favorites. They are hard to shoot because they aren't stationary very long.Editing
The only post processing was adjusting the color a very small amount, improved the contrast a bit. I personally don't usually do a lot of post processing. In my camera bag
I always carry two lens, usually a 55 mm and the 300 mm. Of course a cleaning kit, a spare card (because you never know), a spare, fully charged battery with charger, three filters ( uv, fld, cpl) a lens hood. And last but not least , always carry a tripod, because you just never know. It is better to have it and not use it, then need it and not have it!Feedback
Be patient. Learn the habits and habitat of what you are wanting to shoot. Relax and enjoy the shooting, it is seriously the best part for me, regardless of what I am shooting. Watch and be observant in your surroundings. There is so many interesting things to shoot and see that most people are too busy to take notice of . I like to learn new techniques by "Doing". Sure, you can read up on different settings and techniques, which is very important, however if you don't take the time to put them to use at your leisure, you won't get them down enough to use them when time is of the essence. And those times do come! Learn to shoot for yourself before you shoot for anyone else. That is the great part about photography.....make it personal, shoot what YOU like! Enjoy every minute of it! Don't get frustrated, believe me I know how hard that is, learn and apply it! That's the best way to love what your doing....when you can make the shot you want, how you want.....that's the Best!
