Location
This photo is taken in the glass dome above the Reichstag building in Berlin. The dome was designed by the English architect Norman Foster and sits above the German Parliament.Time
Shot at night time during a heavy rain.Lighting
I used the natural lighting inside the building and the shot was helped as the storm outside gave a very flat light beyond the windows.Equipment
Canon 5D mk3 on a tripod. No flashes but an ISO of 1000 and a relatively slow shutter speed gave me enough light.Inspiration
I was working in Berlin and had a free evening. I'd been to the Reichstag a few years earlier and new how impressive the dome was. I booked a ticket on line and went along with camera and tripod just in case. Sometimes security staff stop people taking serious camera equipment into places like this so it was fingers crossed. They let me in with my gear and I spent 90 minutes or so snapping away. If I'm honest with myself it was pretty easy to take a nice picture as the place is so visual, any direction you point the camera in looks great.Editing
I shot this in colour and graded it black and white then cropped it a little. Not much post on this picture. In my camera bag
Canon 5D mk3 adapted with Magic Lantern, tripod, 24-105mm zoom lens, 50mm fixed lens, polariser filters. I'm a director, visual effects supervisor and compositor in the commercials industry so I always have spare batteries and super quick cards as I like to shoot very high quality video (using magic lanterns RAW video function).Feedback
Sometimes I go to places and think "i wish I had my camera gear with me", so it's great to remember and next time you are in the area/city/country, make time and go back. You wont be disappointed.
