Behind The Lens

Location

This is the front window of my house facing the street. I used a Christmas backdrop and placed Christmas decorations and a lot of stuffed bears in the composition. I used several outdoor and indoor Christmas lights to light the window. I set my camera outside on a tripod on the sidewalk with a radio remote then walked into the image and took the image myself. I try to create a unique Christmas card for my friends and family every year.

Time

This was taken at night I had to stand still because the camera was set for F10 4 seconds ISO 500. The Christmas was not very bright and the Christmas tree had fiber optic lit edges. The outside street light lit the window frame. It was fun trying to get all the different lights to work together.

Lighting

I used everything from room lights to outdoor Christmas lights and tree fiber optic lights. It was very challenging but fun to see it worked so well.

Equipment

I used a Nikon D850 with a Tamron 24x70mm lens. I set my camera up outside on a tripod and used a radio remote to take the image.

Inspiration

I make a Christmas card every year for family and friends and wanted to create something unique that would be a great Christmas display at the same time. We left this on all during the Christmas season.

Editing

I shot in raw and used Photoshop to enhance the image. I did not do a lot of editing other than dodge and burn.

In my camera bag

I use Nikon cameras. I have a Nikon D850 D7500 D7100 and a Nikon D300 converted for infrared. I have a fair selection of lenses Nikon 50mm F 1.4 Nikon 70-22 Tamron 90mm macro and Tamron 150-600mm. I use Godox studio lights

Feedback

I enjoy mixing and matching various light sources. I used everything from desk lamps Christmas string lights tree fiber optic lights and outdoor Christmas house lights inside for this image.
