I took this photo in my Mothers garden. She has the most amazing garden! I can spend hours exploring and admiring the various textures, shapes and colours of the plants and flowers.Time
It was taken in the early evening, during daylight savings time, Australia.Lighting
The sun was slowly setting and casting a beautiful warm glow over the garden. I’m a natural light photographer, so I take advantage of these beautifully lit moments every chance I get!Equipment
I used a Nikon D7200 with a Tamron f2.8 60mm lens. No tripod or flash. Just a steady hand and natural light. Simple and easy!Inspiration
As the setting sunlight cast over this flower the contrasts between the shadow and light caught my eye. Pair that with the interesting texture of the petals and I knew I had to capture this little beauty of nature!Editing
Yes, i did some post processing in Lightroom and Photoshop. I used the curves adjustment in Lightroom to subtly enhance the natural contrast of the highlights and shadows that were already present in the image. In photoshop I converted the picture into black and white. Removing the colour gave the image a whole new perspective and expression! In my camera bag
My Nikon D7200 camera body, the Nikkor 18-140mm f/3.5-5.6G kit lens that it came with and a Tamron 60mm f2.8 macro Nikon mountable lens. I always have a lens cleaning kit and spare SD cards (plus sunscreen and lip balm!) That’s about it! Very simple. Nearly all of my photos in my gallery have been taken from this modest and simple setup.Feedback
Take the time to wander around gardens and nature and explore. You will be amazed at the simple and versatile beauty you will discover! The same subject can look very different in morning light compared to evening light. Use these natural settings to your advantage to capture beautiful textures, contrasting lighting and to express to your viewers your own unique take on nature.
