Behind The Lens
Location
I took this image at the Alligator Farm in ST Augustine, FL.Time
It was mid afternoon with the light behind the egret as it flew past me.Lighting
The lighting was perfect to backlight the bird's feathers.Equipment
I used my hand-held Nikon D300 and 300 mm Nikon lens set at f5.6 and 1/5000 shutter to stop the action of this flying bird.Inspiration
I had been watching this bird bringing nesting material to a nearby nest site for a while and decided It would make a nice image. So, I positioned myself to get a shot of the bird when the sun was behind it to highlight the feathers in the wings and tail.Editing
Very little post processing was necessary other than cropping, contrast adjustments & white balance. In my camera bag
Normally the camera and lens mentioned above plus a D500 Nikon camera with 150-500mm Sigma lens.Feedback
Be ready for unexpected photo ops with your camera settings pre-set for the lighting conditions and anticipated subject matter you intend to photograph.
