Behind The Lens

Location

The photo was taken at the wake of our grandmother in Italy. I actually needed to wait till most people were gone, I did not want to offend them. The family give me permission to shoot only one serie and choose one of them to post as a homage to this amazing woman.

Time

I would say it was around late afternoon, most people had paid there last respect and during that time I could close up the doorway to have a last photo session with the dearly departed.

Lighting

There was lots of natural light coming in from the opened balcony doors, which gave me more then enough lighting needed for this shot.

Equipment

Honestly... This shot was made with a mobile phone. I believe it was an Samsung device. I edited it later on the computer.

Inspiration

I saw her strength and faith from close by, as she is the grandmother of my wife. The way she had her hands put with the cross, I saw a vision to forever frame this shot and show how strong her faith was with her...

Editing

I wanted to get it a bit darker, and more mood (shadow and texture), so I edited the raw shot about 3 times.

In my camera bag

I will never go out the door without my old Canon EOS 400D. 3x memory cards for easy sorting later 2 extra battery packs And an adapter for charging in the car. It packs als a tripod for my phone.

Feedback

Just take good notice of your surroundings. Respect the wishes of the family/friends of the departed. Before just shooting always ask for permission.
