Location
I love walking the Morton Arboretum. There are so many beautiful spots to discover and each walk is different from the last walk. Sterling Pond overflows into a small stream that connects to Lake Marmo, and this stunning bird was wading in the stream, then perched on these limbs. I was lucky to be there and capture the scene.Time
I usually try to walk the Arboretum in either the morning or the Late afternoon. This photo was taken at about 5:00 PM, so most of the stream was in shade, and the sun angle made for good light.Lighting
No additional lighting or modifiers used, this was a lucky, stumble upon the scene shot.Equipment
On informal (non-session) photo walks, I carry a great point-and-shoot Canon with a 50x zoom lens. The Canon Powershot SX50-HS is darn versatile. It captures Raw data too.Inspiration
I loved the colors, the bird's pose, and the reflections. I was in the right spot at the right time.Editing
This image was color balanced and had some slight correction for lens distortion. In my camera bag
For Arboretum photo walks, I usually carry just a camera.Feedback
I've found that walking, pausing, walking and covering 360 of a location helps uncover interesting sights. But sometimes luck plays a part.
