Behind The Lens
Location
This photo was taken during a 2,000km drive to visit my sister in law. It is in New South Wales, Australia along a road known as Thunderbolts Way. Captain Thunderbolt was a bushranger in the colonial days.Time
I took this at midday to capture some of the heat and glare of the Australian countryside.Lighting
The sunlight on a partly cloudy day gave this image the stark outline I was looking for.Equipment
I shot this with a Canon 7D, 50mm Sigma Art lens. No tripod as I braced against a fence post.Inspiration
I had driven past this tumbledown farmhouse many times over almost 40 years but never when the lighting was suitable. I finally stopped, snapped this image and was very happy that I did. It has now completely fallen.Editing
I took the image in monochrome but the contrast was not what I wanted so converted it to sepia. There are high voltage power transmission lines running from side to side through the clouds. I thought these ruined the shot so removed them in Adobe Lightroom. In my camera bag
Canon 7D MK2, 50mm and 100mm prime lenses, 70-300mm zoom, 10-20mm landscape lens and sometimes a Tamron 150-600mm zoom.Feedback
If you see it, photograph it no matter the equipment you have. The opportunity may never come your way again.
