Behind The Lens

Location

I took this photo in my own garden which is planted with lots of native Australian flora to attract birds and insects. The bottlebrush (Callistemon) attracts many different birds, bees butterflies and beetles. This shot was taken during a migration of this species.

Time

About mid morning, the garden was teeming with these beauties and made a real spectacle on an otherwise dull day.

Lighting

Only natural lighting used as I was outdoors and even a ring type flash will reflect off the eyes.

Equipment

Handheld with a Canon 7D MkII, 100mm macro lens. 1/200, f16, ISO 2,000.

Inspiration

I just love insects and macro photography.

Editing

I only use Lightroom to adjust exposure and crop if necessary.

In my camera bag

Lenses: 30mm, 50mm, 100mm, 18-135mm,300mm, 150-600mm, 10-20mm. Spare batteries, ring flash and lens cloths.

Feedback

Even if you don't like it, leave it for a while before deleting. I have revisited some photos after a couple of years and thought "Wow! Did I take that?
