I took this photo at a child fair in Ohio . The Fire Department had their arson dog on display for the children to see. as people were talking to the handler the dog happened to be staring in my direction and I snapped the photo. The original photo obviously had a car in the background. It was taken October 4th 2017 and the dog's name is Ian. I made a copy of this photo for that Fire Station to hang in their Station.Time
The photograph was taken on October 4th, 2017 at around 12:30 am.Lighting
This was a fairly sunny day but the dog was in a shaded area. I also used a fill flash to fill in and lighten shadow areas.Equipment
I use a Nikon D7100 body and a sigma 24 - 70 f2.8 lense. I also carry a Godox 360 flash with a battery pack to manually fill in shadow areas. Most of my work is hand held and I rarely use a tripod.Inspiration
I spent 18 years as a professional Firefighter / Paramedic and through my work, experienced the importance of the K-9's. They go through daily training with their handlers and it is many dedicated hours to keep these dogs in service. I also saw how the children interacted with the dog.Editing
Yes, I used Lightroom to start my process and to make adjustments to the image. I then put it into Photoshop to cut the image of the dog from the background. I then placed a background into the image that had a similar color as the dog had on its collar. I then touched up some of the areas of the dogs hair and then placed a vignette over it. I merged the layers and saved the image as a jpeg.In my camera bag
I carry a Nikon D 7100 body a Sigma 24 -70 f2.8 lense, a Sigma 70 - 200 f2.8 lense, a flash unit, 4 camera batteries, multiple SD cards, some lense cleaning equipment and a camera sling.Feedback
As a photographer I am always looking for interesting images to take. Weather the images tell a story, send a message or inspires art. I am always on the lookout for interesting ways or angles to present the work. Moments that are photographed are fleeting moments of history and to capture these images tells a story, a moment in time and a story of someone's life or even a story of your life . Have an open mind make friends and have a passion for your work to be seen. Always study the art, look at others work and inspire yourself and others.
