Behind The Lens

Location

This photo was taken at a bird sanctuary in the greater Cleveland, Ohio area U.S.A.

Time

If my memory serves me I believe this was captured around 3:00pm

Lighting

The sunlight was not too bright that day and the area that this bird was perched there were trees around that softened the light.

Equipment

This photo was taken with a Sony A77 Camera and a 150 - 600 Sigma Lens, hand held at f5.6 ISO 500 and the shutter speed was 1/125 of a sec.

Inspiration

This was a group outing with several photographer friends and we were just interested in capturing some up close images of birds in a more natural habitat that we could get more natural looking photos.

Editing

Most of my work is shot in RAW format and I do some basic post processing work on my images. I usually sharpen them, remove some artifact, I add a touch of vibrancy and reduce shadows as needed.

In my camera bag

I usually carry a camera body, several lenses (telephoto 70-200 f2.8 & a 24 - 70 f 2.8 and a 50mm prime f1.4) If I am shooting nature shots I also carry a Tamron 150 -600 f5.6 . I also have lens cleaning equipment, a tripod several lens filters and spare batteries.

Feedback

The most important advise that I can give any photographer starting out is to be patient and learn your equipment. Perfect practice makes perfect images. Look for varying angles and ways to crop your subjects to make them more interesting. Start out slow and practice different facets of your skill sets and pay attention to your progress by studying your images. Look at other photographers images to be inspired and then motivate yourself to get out there and click away!
