This image was taken at the bay right down my street. Long Island, New York. One of my favorite spots!Time
Oof, maybe around noon, one o clock? This shoot was interesting, I went down to the bay to try to break a block that I'd fallen into and I remember struggling with an image because of the harsh sun and light. Sometimes while you're trying to create, planned or not you just have to take a step back and work with what you are given. Tried to use that sun to my advantage and worked out well!Lighting
It's very hard for me at least to work in direct bright sunlight, shoot dark, for the shadows then edit for the highlights.Equipment
My Nikon D800, and a tripod. ( self timer!)Inspiration
Tough question actually, I remember it was just getting warmer out here on Long Island during this shoot. And the sun felt nice, you know after the long cold winter to finally have a day of warmth and sunshine. Felt amazing. I didn't know where this was going to go during the post processing but I knew I had an angle and a shot so kind of just went for it. To answer the question, the warmth of the sun. After a cold winter is what inspired me.Editing
Yupppp all my images are heavy on the post processing, this was before I started using Lightroom actually!! Wow. So this image is about 4-5 images in total, expand the canvas size ( in photoshop) and manually stitch together the background. So to the left, right, above, behind me and myself are all separate images. Crucial to have your camera on a tripod if you are expanding an image! Since I had that behind shot I have information to mask in... or out lol So with the black brush I just starting making "holes" in my body that when masked out revealed the background behind it, after that was just creating the different rays of light with a small brush to larger, give it alittle blur and there you go!In my camera bag
Oooo hmm, I use a photography backpack actually. Camera ( obviously lol ) wide angle lens, 50 mm lens, 2 batteries, battery charger, white balance card, a pack of string lights, a smoke bomb, a clicker and some other stuff here and there.Feedback
Just go for it, seriously. Go out and shoot and let your creativeness form as you go. Even if you think you didn't get an image, save the images on a hard drive and revisit them a couple months later.
